Introduction

Professor Wang Tao was born in 1960 and is the Chair Professor of Atmospheric Environment at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the adjunct professor at Environmental Research Institute of Shandong University. He received his B.Sc. in chemistry from the Department of chemistry of Nankai University in 1985, and received his Ph.D. in atmospheric chemistry from the Department of earth and Atmospheric Sciences of Georgia Institute of technology in 1992. From 1992 to 1995, he was a post-doctoral researcher in the Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences of University of Michigan. Since 1995, he has successively served as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor and Chair Professor of Atmospheric Environment at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Professor Wang Tao is one of the most active Chinese atmospheric chemists in the world. His research focus include trend, formation and long-distance transport mechanism of tropospheric ozone, sources and heterogeneous chemistry of nitrogen compounds (nitrous acid and dinitrogen pentoxide) and their impacts on the atmospheric oxidative capacity, instrument and model development. His research group have published more than 200 papers in the top journals of earth and atmospheric science such as Atmos. Chem Phys., Environ. Sci. Tech., J. of Geophys. Res., and Atmos. Environ. The research results have been cited more than 6200 times, and the h-index is 57.

Professor Wang Tao is currently a Distinguished Researcher of The Chinese Academy of Sciences and has been carrying out research jointly with universities in mainland China such as Peking University, Nankai University, Shandong University, Nanjing University, Sun Yat-sen University and Fudan University.
